Mining

The process of validating and adding new transactions to the blockchain by solving complex mathematical problems. Miners are rewarded with cryptocurrency for their efforts.

Market Cap (Market Capitalization)

The total value of a cryptocurrency, calculated by multiplying the current price by the total circulating supply.

Mempool

A waiting area for unconfirmed transactions on a blockchain network before they are added to a block.

Mainnet

The live, fully operational version of a blockchain network where real transactions occur.

Masternode

A node in a blockchain network that performs specialized functions, such as validating transactions or enabling privacy features, often in exchange for rewards.

Multisig (Multi-Signature)

A wallet or transaction that requires multiple private keys to authorize, adding an extra layer of security.

Merkle Tree

A data structure used in blockchains to efficiently and securely verify the integrity of large sets of data.

Merkle Root

A single hash that summarizes all the transactions in a block, used to verify the integrity of the data.

MEV (Miner Extractable Value)

The profit miners or validators can earn by reordering, including, or excluding transactions in a block.

Mining Pool

A group of miners who combine their computational resources to increase their chances of mining a block and sharing the rewards.

Moon

Slang for a cryptocurrency’s price rising significantly, often used in phrases like “to the moon.”

Mempool Size

The number of unconfirmed transactions waiting to be added to a blockchain.

Mainnet Swap

The process of migrating a cryptocurrency from one blockchain (e.g., an ERC-20 token) to its own native blockchain.

Mainnet Launch

The official release of a blockchain network, where it becomes fully operational for real-world use.

Margin Trading

A trading strategy that involves borrowing funds to increase the size of a position, amplifying potential gains or losses.

Merkle Proof

A cryptographic proof that verifies the inclusion of a specific transaction in a block without revealing the entire block’s contents.

Mixer

A service that obscures the origin of cryptocurrency transactions by mixing them with other transactions, enhancing privacy.

Moonboy

Slang for an overly optimistic cryptocurrency investor who believes prices will rise indefinitely.
