P

Public Key

A cryptographic code that allows users to receive cryptocurrencies. It can be shared publicly and is paired with a private key.

Proof of Work (PoW)

A consensus mechanism where miners solve complex mathematical problems to validate transactions and secure the network.

Proof of Stake (PoS)

A consensus mechanism where validators are chosen to create new blocks based on the amount of cryptocurrency they hold and are willing to "stake" as collateral.

P2P (Peer-to-Peer)

A decentralized network where participants interact directly without intermediaries, commonly used in cryptocurrency transactions.

Public Blockchain

A blockchain network that is open to anyone, allowing for full transparency and decentralization.

Permissioned Blockchain

A blockchain network where access and participation are restricted to authorized users or entities.

Pump and Dump

A manipulative scheme where the price of a cryptocurrency is artificially inflated (pumped) and then sold off (dumped) for profit.

Paper Wallet

A physical document containing a cryptocurrency address and private key, often used for cold storage.

Paper Trading

The practice of simulating cryptocurrency trades without using real money, often used for testing strategies.

Parachain

A parallel blockchain that connects to a main blockchain (e.g., Polkadot) to share security and interoperability.

Ponzi Scheme

A fraudulent investment scheme that pays returns to earlier investors using funds from newer investors, often associated with scam coins.

Proof of Burn (PoB)

A consensus mechanism where miners “burn” (destroy) cryptocurrency to earn the right to mine new blocks.

Permissionless

A characteristic of public blockchains where anyone can participate without needing approval from a central authority.

Proof of Authority (PoA)

A consensus mechanism where validators are chosen based on their identity and reputation, rather than computational power or stake.

Proof of Capacity (PoC)

A consensus mechanism where miners use available storage space to validate transactions and create new blocks.

Proof of Elapsed Time (PoET)

A consensus mechanism used in permissioned blockchains, where validators are chosen based on a random wait time.
